JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Jefferson City man was charged this week after allegedly making a false claim in a 911 call.

Emerson Maureira, 34, is charged with misusing 911 and making a false report. He is held at the Cole County Jail on a $10,000 bond, according to Casenet. He also has a pair of charges in December: Second-degree harassment and tampering with a victim. An arraignment hearing was held for both cases Friday at the Cole County Courthouse.

The Cole County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call on Feb. 14, where Maureira claimed a woman chased him out of a house with an axe. Communications told the Sheriff’s Office the woman was in the house with Maureira

Deputies arrived to the house – on Randall Drive – and learned that no one had a weapon outside of the house, according to the probable cause statement. It was advised Maureira was possibly barricaded in a bedroom with another woman while the first was outside the door with a weapon.

The woman was initially detained, but told deputies that Maureira was upstairs in a bedroom with a woman and that he would most likely not open the door. Deputies brought in a negotiator due to the situation changing to being a possible hostage situation.

Deputies communicated with Maureira and detained him and the woman inside. Maureira allegedly told deputies that he did not see the first woman with a weapon that day, but called because he believed she may have had a weapon.

Maureira denied telling dispatch he was chased from the residence that day and said it happened in December. Deputies said in the probable cause statement that there was never a violent threat made to Maureira’s life and a weapon was never shown.
