Man charged after allegedly ransacking Rock Quarry Center
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Columbia man faces multiple charges after allegedly ransacking the University of Missouri Rock Quarry Center on Monday.
Bobby Harold Johnson, 37, is charged with first-degree burglary, first-degree property damage and stealing. He is being held at the Boone County Jail on a $50,000 bond. He had an arraignment hearing Wednesday. His next court date is March 14, according to Boone County Sheriff online records.
University of Missouri Police responded to a call at the building on 1400 Rock Quarry Road on Monday evening. The building was searched and Johnson was not initially located. Damage to several ceiling tiles and metal ceiling tile frames were observed by police in the cafeteria and women’s bathroom, according to the probable cause statement. Items from the fridge were also taken.
Johnson was later found in the ceiling. He was given several commands to come down but initially did not comply. The Columbia Fire Department was brought in to locate Johnson with a thermal image camera. After about 30 minutes, Johnson was located in the ceiling of the women’s bathroom and came down, according to the probable cause statement.
Damage to the ceiling was also noticed by maintenance staff. Staff told police Johnson stepped on the sprinkler system’s pipes, which caused “significant damage” to the ceiling.
