Shots fired into ceiling at fraternity party

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Shots were fired into the ceiling at Bur Oak Brewery early Sunday during a party for a University of Missouri fraternity.

Boone County sheriff's deputies were called to the brewery east of Columbia at about 1 a.m. Sunday after security personnel at the event called authorities to report fights and that someone might have a gun, said Capt. Brian Leer with the Boone County Sheriff's Office. About 300 people were at the party.

Deputies found out after they arrived that shots had been fired inside the building, Leer said. Evidence showed that two shots were fired into the ceiling.

Deputies say witnesses were not cooperative or unwilling to tell what they knew, Leer said. No suspects were identified and no arrests were made.

The University of Missouri's student discipline office is investigating what happened, an MU spokesman said.
