Audrain County teen sentenced to probation for school shooting threat

MEXICO, Mo. (KMIZ)

An Audrain County teenager will spend two years on supervised probation for making a threat about a school shooting.

Judge Brian Stumpe suspended a one-year jail sentence for Drake Campbell, 18, of Laddonia, after he agreed to plead guilty to second-degree harassment Nov. 21. In June, the Audrain County Prosecutor's Office charged Campbell with a second-degree terrorist threat and first-degree harassment.

The terms of Campbell's probation prevent him from drinking or using illegal substances unless a doctor prescribes medication. Campbell also cannot visit businesses that sell "intoxicants."

A law enforcement officer can request a breath or blood sample from Campbell regardless of whether there is probable cause to do so. Other conditions of Campbell's probation include no contact with the victims or the victims' family, taking a mental health evaluation and following any recommendations from the assessment.

According to court documents filed in June, several people heard Campbell talk about plans for a school shooting at Community R-6 on the last day of classes or at graduation. Campbell reportedly told investigators he talked about the plans several years ago and had a list of targets.

According to the documents, Campbell told investigators he no longer had the list and stays away from the people involved.
