Cole County Sheriff’s Office: Man assaults minor, leads deputies on chase, tries to escape from patrol car
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Cole County man faces several charges after allegedly assaulting a minor and leading law enforcement on a chase on Saturday.
Curtis Matheney, 28, was charged with:
- First-degree assault of a special victim.
- Resisting arrest.
- Escaping from custody while under arrest.
He was also charged with fourth-degree assault and fourth-degree domestic assault, both misdemeanors.
On Saturday, a child called 911 and a female voice could be heard over the phone stating, "Curtis just leave and you are destroying the house," according to a probable cause statement.
Callers told dispatchers that Matheney may have left for work and could have been under the influence of methamphetamine, according to the probable statement.
Matheney allegedly was at the property claiming people in the house were hiding his property. He then allegedly cut up cameras at the residence and destroyed the bathroom.
He also allegedly threw a bag of sugar and a lit cigarette at the child, according to the statement.
Cole County Sheriff's Office deputies found Matheney's truck at All-n-One Outdoor Solutions. A deputy drove their patrol car to the truck and turned on the emergency lights, which is when Matheney sped off. Deputies chased him around Jefferson City and Matheney allegedly almost hit multiple patrol vehicles.
Matheney was stopped at the 6900 block of Business 50 West and deputies ordered him to get out of the vehicle at gunpoint. He allegedly started driving at deputies, but was spun out after another deputy hit his car to stop him, according to the statement.
He allegedly resisted arrest once deputies got a hold of him. While he was in the back of the patrol car, Matheney allegedly was kicking and headbutting the cage section. While in handcuffs, he was able to get his seatbelt off, open the rear passenger side door to try to flee.
Several yards, roads and road signs were damaged, according to the probable cause statement.
An arraignment was held Monday at the Cole County Circuit Court.
