Columbia police arrest man following barricade situation on Lyon Street
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Columbia police responded to a potential hostage situation around 6 p.m. Tuesday in the 600 block of Lyon Street.
Police shut down Lyon Street from Circus Avenue to Fifth Street.
A man was arrested after police had to use force inside the building, according to Lt. Scott Alpers, of the Columbia Police Department. The suspect of the investigation was not named at the scene.
Police went to the house after a female texted a friend that she was not being allowed to leave, according to Alpers.
When police arrived, the man ran outside of the house and then went back inside. The female then ran outside and was "panicky," according to Alpers. She had no reported injuries.
The door was left open when the woman ran out of the building. Police entered using the open door to arrest the man. Alpers did not say if weapons were used at the scene.
The man had several previous charges, according to Alpers, including an order of protection violation, harassment, kidnapping and domestic violence. Alpers said charges stemming from Tuesday night's incident would be similar.
There were at least eight police vehicles at the scene. The SWAT team wasin the area, but has not been activated, according to a CPD spokesman. There was also a K-9 unit on the scene.
"Every officer that was available was here today," Alpers said.
SWAT teams were leaving the scene at 9:04 p.m.
