Jefferson City police make arrest after man with gun reported in ‘residential living center’

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Jefferson City police arrested an armed man at a "resident living center" Wednesday night, according to a news release.

Officers were sent to a building in the 1000 block of Adams Street after callers told dispatchers that a man had entered the center saying he had been shot, the release says. Police did not name the residential center.

More callers, including some inside Capital Region Medical Center, reported hearing shots fired in the area, according to police.

Officers found the man inside the building and he gave up his weapon and was arrested, the release says. Police found spent casings in the area but no other suspects and no wounded victims.

The man, whom police didn't identify pending the filing of charges, implicated himself in having a handgun stolen from Columbia and firing shots, the release says. Police arrested him on suspicion of illegal use of a weapon, armed criminal action and second-degree assault.

The suspect had not actually been shot, despite telling the residential staff that he had, a Jefferson City Police Department spokesman said.
