COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Kansas City, Kansas, man was charged Friday with felony driving while intoxicated and driving on the wrong side of the road -- a misdemeanor -- in connection with a deadly Sept. 2 crash in Morgan County.

Alexander Luttrell, 36, was arrested Sept. 2 in Morgan County on Highway 5 near Winding Oaks Road following a head-on collision, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Luttrell was driving south on Highway 5 in his Chevy Traverse and collided with a Toyota Yaris heading north. He was taken to Lake Regional Hospital in Camden County.

When asked by officers how the crash occurred, Luttrell responded, "You tell me," according to the probable cause statement.

A breathalyzer didn't work because Luttrell didn't provide enough air over four attempts, the statement says. Troopers then requested a blood test.

Luttrell's medical records show his blood-alcohol level was nearly 0.30 when he was admitted to the hospital after the crash, according to the statement.

The crash killed Steven Stafford, 25, of Versailles. Stafford was pronounced dead at the scene.
