Man arrested after report of burglary with knife east of Columbia
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Deputies arrested a man who might have been impaired by drugs or alcohol after he walked into a home with a knife east of Columbia on Tuesday, according to the Boone County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies were sent to the 1400 block of Golf Boulevard near the Lake of the Woods golf course at about 12:30 p.m. on a call of a man with a knife entering a residence through an unlocked door, the sheriff's office said in a social media post. The caller said another resident had the man with the knife at gunpoint in the kitchen.
A deputy found Damon Harrell, 31, of Columbia sitting outside near the door, the sheriff's office says. Harrell ran but was found in a neighboring yard and arrested without injury, according to the post.
Deputies initially took Harrell to a hospital for evaluation before taking him to the Boone County Jail. Prosecutors at first charged him Wednesday with first-degree burglary, armed criminal action and felony resisting arrest but a judge rejected those charges, according to online court records.
Prosecutors then filed charges of felony resisting arrest and two misdemeanors -- trespassing and fourth-degree assault.
Harrell was initially jailed with bond but his bond was set Wednesday to $10,000. He remained in the Boone County Jail on Wednesday afternoon.
