Columbia sex offender sentenced to 20 years in child pornography case
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Columbia man was sentenced Monday to 20 years in federal prison after pleading guilty in a child pornography case.
Matthew Stone was sentenced to 10 years for transfer of obscene material and 10 years for violating rules for registered sex offenders, according to court records.
Stone was arrested in 2015 after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children passed information about a Skype upload to Boone County investigators. Authorities said at the time that Stone admitted to using the Skype account.
Stone also failed to register the account under special requirements for sex offenders, investigators said.
The government dropped two other charges against him, according to court records.
Stone pleaded guilty to state charges stemming from the same incident in 2015. He received a four-year prison sentence for possession of child pornography. Stone's defense attorney said in federal court records that Stone is currently in a Department of Mental Health institution in relation to the conviction.
