A Columbia man was charged Wednesday with a felony after leading police on a chase that started on Interstate 70 and ended in central Columbia.

Danny R. Ramsey, 60, was jailed Tuesday and subsequently charged with felony resisting arrest and three misdemeanors -- attempted theft of a catalytic converter, leaving the scene of a crash and driving without a license.

The chase started when an officer tried to pull Ramsey's truck over after a report from a Columbia Police Department detective that a man was stealing a catalytic converter on Interstate 70, according to a probable cause statement. The chase then went onto Business Loop 70 and through several central Columbia streets before ending on Grand Avenue, police said.

Officers found a saw in Ramsey's truck consistent with what the detective saw, according to the statement. Ramsey allegedly admitted to trying to steal the converter to police.

The statement says Ramsey hit a small trailer during the chase, as well.

Ramsey remained in the Boone County Jail on Wednesday evening on a $10,000 bond.
