Juvenile shot in Jefferson City Friday night

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Jefferson City Police department said one juvenile was shot Friday night, after officers responded to the 600 block of Ohio Street to investigate a weapons offense.

Officers said once on scene they were able to locate a juvenile who had suffered a gunshot wound.

The victim was initially transported by EMS, eventually taken by helicopter for treatment according to a press release.

An initial investigation found a shooting had occurred inside a residence, where multiple other juveniles were present.

Multiple people were detained at the scene, with the preliminary investigation determining there is no immediate threat to the community.

A witness told ABC 17 Crews that he has lived in the area for seven years and has never experienced anything like this during his time living there.

Witnesses said they heard what sounded like two gunshots, and watched two people be detained shortly after. Witnesses said that one of the suspects was found either inside, or behind a recently vacated home.

The investigation is ongoing, as JCPD asks anyone with information to contact the Jefferson City Police Department, or Crimestoppers.
