Neighbor describes home invasion shooting in south Columbia

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Columbia police continue to investigate a home invasion after responding to a shots fired call on Wednesday evening.

Officers first responded to the incident at 7:50 p.m. on the 4000 block of Hyde Park and found no one at the residence. After entry into the residence, officers located evidence confirming shots were fired, according to a release.

A victim told police that he was entering a residence when several suspects walked up to him and forced him inside the residence while holding a gun. The victim told police that a suspect hit him with a firearm causing injuries. No injuries to other victims were reported.

Police are reporting that the victim could not provide suspect information at this time.

A neighbor, that asked to remain anonymous for their safety, told ABC 17 News crews she was home at the time of the shooting and heard loud shots ring out.

"I was riding my treadmill and first I heard two loud noises, which was like bang bang!" the neighbor said.

She believes she caught video of the suspects running out of the apartment on her security camera.

"When I was looking at my camera, I saw three guys run away and a white car was waiting for them," the neighbor said.

ABC 17 News crews saw the security footage and can confirm what the neighbor saw.

The neighbor said shootings are very unusual for the neighborhood.

"That is not usual, definitely not usual and I have been living here for many years," the neighbor said.
