Teenager detained in connection with deadly Columbia shooting

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Police have detained a teenager on suspicion of murder in connection with a deadly weekend shooting in a residential area.

The Columbia Police Department said in a news release that the 16-year-old boy was detained Tuesday on suspicion of first-degree murder, assault and armed criminal action in connection with the shooting early Saturday in the 1800 block of McKee Street.

It wasn't clear whether the teen would be certified as an adult.

A vigil was held Monday for the victim, 15-year-old Battle High School student Aubry Doxley. About 200 people attended the event along with Columbia police.

Police have released few details about the shooting, but did say two other people were also hit by bullets.

Doxley's mother, Latoya, said Aubry was lying in her bed when the shots came through the window and killed her.

One of the other shooting victims, identified by police as a "juvenile male," was taken by private vehicle to a hospital. The other, a man, declined medical treatment at the scene, police said.

Neighbors told ABC 17 News they heard about 10 to 20 shots that came from outside of the home while Doxley was inside.
