Ashland police: Report of attempted abduction false

ASHLAND, Mo. (KMIZ)

Ashland police said Friday that a child abduction attempt reported earlier in the week never happened.

"This case is considered closed and no suspects are being sought," the Ashland Police Department said in a news release. Police reported Tuesday that they were investigating a report of an attempted abduction that afternoon near Oak and Tandy streets. Officers used a drone to search for suspects after the report.

"Today, officers obtained information from the reporting party that decisively confirmed no abduction
attempt occurred and the report was false," according to the release.

The department praised the parents for reporting what their child told them, saying it was done with the safety of the entire city in mind. Police also thanked those who helped in the investigation and provided "instrumental video evidence."

Police said they will release no other information about the case.
