JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Jefferson City police identified the suspects in a Thursday shooting by talking to several witnesses and using surveillance video from a camera showing the street and the front door of the victim's home.

The Jefferson City Police Department said Thursday that a 25-year-old man was shot on Boonville Road. Police later said two suspects had been arrested and charged.

The man's roommate told police that Powell Yaeger, 27, of Columbia, pulled the trigger and that the men had an ongoing dispute involving a woman, according to a probable cause statement. The man said he heard a gunshot inside while standing outside the home and the victim came up to him holding his chest and asking for help, according to the statement.

Police say the man was shot once in the chest and taken to University Hospital. His condition is not known.

The witness allegedly told police he saw Yaeger holding a gun and yelling after the shooting. The probable cause statement says two children also saw the shooting and identified Yaeger.

The roommate loaded the victim into a vehicle and started driving to a hospital but was intercepted by police and medics at a Break Time gas station. The victim was then taken to a hospital.

A camera on the front door of the home in the 600 block of Boonville Road captured video of Yaeger, 27, and Ashley Selvey, 32, also of Columbia, leaving the scene of the shooting in a vehicle, according to the statement. Yaeger carried a gun used and Selvey, his girlfriend, had a rifle, according to a probable cause statement.

Boone County sheriff's deputies later arrested the two in Hartsburg, JCPD said Thursday.

Prosecutors charged Yaeger with first-degree assault, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon, all felonies. Selvey was charged with illegal gun possession, a felony. Both were scheduled to be arraigned Friday in Cole County.
