Neighbors: Columbia shooting suspect and slain teen were friends
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Columbia police arrested a teenager in the shooting death of another teen late Monday.
Officers arrested Shawn P. Long, 18, in connection with the death of Roberto A. Lauer, 18, the Columbia Police Department said in a news release.
A Boone County prosecutor has charged Long with armed criminal action and first-degree involuntary manslaughter. Long has a $250,000 cash-only bond. He is still in Boone County Jail.
CPD responded to the 5400 block of Irma Drive just before 10 p.m. Monday for a report of a person who had been shot.
Once officers arrived on the scene, they found Lauer, who had been shot. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Neighbors spoke with ABC 17 News and say they aren't exactly sure what happened but Lauer was a good kid. People around the duplex said they heard what sounded like tumbling down the stairs around the time of the shooting.
Neighbors say Lauer and Long were best friends and that Lauer lived in the home with his grandmother, siblings and cousin.
ABC 17 News crews saw CPD officers searching the front and back of the house with flashlights. They were also seen looking into a car parked in the driveway of the home. Police were seen taking photos inside the second floor of the house as well as inside the garage.
Police cleared the scene just before 6 a.m. Tuesday.
