MUPD arrests man after fight in Downtown Columbia on Wednesday night

UPDATE OCT. 7, 2022: Welty pleaded guilty to a charge of second-degree assault and was sentenced to probation.
ORIGINAL: Police have arrested a man after a fight in Downtown Columbia on Wednesday night.
Officers arrested Brandon L. Welty, 25, of Columbia, after a fight among three people near the intersection of Ninth and Cherry streets, University of Missouri police said.
Police said the argument was the subject of an MU Alert sent out at 10:40 p.m.

Investigators accuse Welty of hitting another man with a BB gun during an argument. Police said the man left the area after he fought back and knocked Welty down.
According to the police department, officers recovered the weapon Welty used. Police said the BB gun was never fired during the incident.
Welty faces possible charges of second-degree assault and armed criminal action. He's being held in the Boone County Jail without bond.
According to jail records, a court hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Friday.
