Jefferson City man accepts plea deal in 2019 killing

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Prosecutors are asking a Cole County judge to sentence a Jefferson City man who pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and armed criminal action to 15 years in prison.

Devin Schrimpf accepted a plea deal Monday in the 2019 killing of 18-year-old Marquise Conley.

Schrimpf's first trial ended in a mistrial in October.  The jury was tasked with deliberating between three different charges: first-degree murder, second-degree murder and unintentional manslaughter. Prosecutor Locke Thompson speculated at the time that the jury may have not been able to agree on which charge to pursue.

Locke said Tuesday that his office is seeking 10 years for manslaughter and five years for armed criminal action. 

A final sentencing hearing has been scheduled for Feb. 19.  

Another man, Grant Deppe is serving six years in prison in connection with the case. He pleaded guilty to accessory to murder charges last year.
