A verbal argument near Douglass Park on August 23 leads to a shooting and one person being taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

An argument near Douglass Park Monday night leads to a shooting and one person being taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police responded to the reported shooting in the 400 block of North Providence Road at about 8:20 p.m., according to a Columbia Police Department news release.

According to the probable cause statement, Jemikia Nicole Jordan, 40, of Columbia, shot the victim in the head after multiple arguments. According to court documents, she surrendered when police arrived on the scene.

Jordan told detectives the first argument began with the victim near the 500 block of north 5th st. Jordan told the detectives that she showed her gun to the victim to end the argument before walking away and putting the gun in her handbag. Jordan says that the victim followed her to Douglass park when there another argument began. Jordan says the victim got in Jordan's face and punched her in the face. That is when Jordan allegedly shot the victim in the head. Jordan then put the gun down and waited for police according to the probable cause statement. ac

A witness reported to police that she saw the verbal argument but was looking away when the shooting occurred. After the gunshot, she saw the victim on the ground according to the probable cause statement.

Officers arrested Jordan on suspicion of first-degree assault and armed criminal action. Jordan was in the Boone County Jail on Tuesday morning. No charges could be found in online court records.

Police found and arrested Jordan while they were at the scene gathering evidence, according to the news release.
