Fulton teacher, daughter killed; Boone County sheriff investigating

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A 43-year-old woman and her 11-year-old daughter were found dead Sunday night at a Boone County home, the Boone County Sheriff's Department said Monday.

Deputies found Allison Abitz and Jozee Abitz dead in the 7500 block of Lavender Drive just south of Columbia after getting a call from a concerned family member late Sunday, the sheriff's department said in a Facebook post.

The sheriff's department said investigators believe the Abitzes are homicide victims. Neighbors told ABC 17 News that the Abitzes moved in just a few months ago. County records show Allison Abitz owned the home.

Allison Abitz was a second grade teacher at Fulton's Bush Elementary School.

Venessa Nelson, mother of 5 at Bush Elementray, said, “All I know is Allison was the sweetest teacher ever and my kids loved her. She was a very sweet soft spoken teacher who her students loved. She will be missed truly from the bush staff and bush family.”

Captain Brian Leer did confirm that that Boone County Sheriff’s deputies were in Callaway County Monday night as part of the investigation into the double homicide.

The department said no suspects have been arrested or charged.
