Jefferson City police arrest shooting suspect
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
Police have arrested a man suspected of four felonies in a Jefferson City shooting that injured one.
Officers arrested Trey L. Garrett, 26, on Monday at a Jefferson City home, according to a release from the Jefferson City Police Department. Prosecutors charged Garrett last month with first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, armed criminal action and being a dangerous felon in possession of a gun. The shooting happened June 4 on Broadway. Garrett had left by the time officers arrived, police said.
Police found out where Garrett was on Monday and a SWAT team surrounded the home, according to the release. Garrett surrendered peacefully after negotiations with police, the department said.
He was in the Cole County Jail on Tuesday without bond.
According to a probable cause statement filed in Garrett's case, Garrett was in a fight with another man when Garrett went to his apartment, got a gun and shot the victim while he ran away. The victim identified Garrett as the shooter from a photo lineup, the statement says.
Prosecutors also charged Esther S. Ruboneka, 22, with felony hindering prosecution. Ruboneka is accused of driving Garrett from the scene after the shooting. Ruboneka had her first court appearance in the case last month, according to online records.
No lawyer was listed for Garrett in online court records.
