COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

EDITOR'S NOTE: This story has been corrected after police initially said a suspect was in custody.

Police taped off part of a central Columbia gas station parking lot Tuesday morning after what is being called an assault with a vehicle.

Officers were sent to the Break Time convenience store at Garth Avenue and Business Loop 70 a little after 5 a.m. They taped off part of the parking lot and a crime scene van showed up to help with the investigation.

Columbia Police Department spokesman Jeff Pitts said police were investigating a vehicle assault and had identified a suspect -- Darrell L. Rogers, 35. Pitts said a 51-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman who had been in a previous relationship with Rogers were the targets of the assault.

The man was taken to an emergency room for minor injuries. The woman was not hurt, Pitts said.

Pitts said Rogers is suspected of armed criminal action, assault, domestic assault and property damage because the vehicle involved in the encounter hit the building.
