BENTON, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Benton County Sheriff’s Office located a body after originally receiving a notification about a possible missing person in the area.

According to a Facebook post, the sheriff's office was notified on June 12 that Cody B. Garrett 28, of Columbia had been reported missing.

Garrett’s mother reported him missing to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office after Garrett had not been in contact for approximately 48 hours.

Garrett's mother told officers that he had let her know he would be going to Benton County with friends, then didn't return.

Benton County Deputies were able to ping Garrett's phone, leading them to his vehicle in Warsaw.

While investigating the car, Garrett’s body was located approximately a half mile away from his vehicle, down a secondary bike trail.

The preliminary report from the Jackson County Medical Examiner ruled Garrett's death as a homicide.

Detectives are working multiple leads and ask if anyone has any information to contact the Benton County Sheriff’s Office.
