COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Boone County Sheriff's Office said a man is on the run after leading deputies on a chase Wednesday night.

According to a news release, a deputy tried to pull over a driver for not having license plates in the parking lot of Fastlane at Route HH and Route B around 7:55 p.m. Wednesday. The driver of the Mercedes-Benz SUV led police on a chase after the attempted traffic stop, the sheriff's office said.

The deputy stopped the chase for safety reasons when the SUV went on a gravel road, according to the release. The deputy saw the vehicle again at Route HH and Route Z but had to stop the chase again when the driver went into Callaway County, the sheriff's office said.
