Jefferson City police arrest man in connection with shooting

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Jefferson City police responded to a shooting early Friday morning.

At 2:37 a.m., the Jefferson City Communications Center received calls about shots fired in the area of E. McCarty and Lafayette Streets.

According to a news release, officers found shell casings in the area. A Lincoln University police officer saw a vehicle speeding.

Officers stopped the vehicle in the 400 block of Stadium Drive and saw bullet casings on the trunk of the vehicle. Officers say they found a 9mm handgun as well as more shell casings inside the vehicle.

Police said they took six people inside the vehicle to the police department. One man is in custody at the Cole County Jail pending charges of possession of a firearm by a felon and unlawful use of a weapon.

No one was injured in the incident.
