Columbia police report a suspect that crashed into the State Historical Society of Missouri blew .273 during a preliminary breath test Sunday morning.

Columbia police attempted to stop Gire Ngizahayo for going 76 miles per hour in a 40 mph speed limit area near Stadium Boulevard and Ashland Road.

The chase went downtown, where the officers caught up to the vehicle at Providence Road and Elm Street, before the driver lost control and crashed into the building at Fifth Street and Elm, police said.

Ngizahayo was released from the Boone County Jail after posting bond, according to jail records.

Ngizahayo is charged with resisting arrest, leaving the scene of an accident and exceeded posted speed limit.

Ngizahayo initial court appearance is scheduled for April 29.
