Moberly man arrested following an hours-long standoff

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Moberly Police Department said a 38-year-old man was arrested after barricading himself inside his home Tuesday night.

Officers responded to the 900 block of Franklin Street after getting reports of a man brandishing a handgun and threatening neighbors, a news release said.

After police arrived on the scene around 9:30 p.m. and quickly set up a perimeter with assistance from Randolph County Sheriff's deputies. The Moberly SWAT team was also activated along with the Missouri State Highway Patrol's negotiation team, according to the release.

The male subject was taken into custody after a few hours. He's suspected of assault, unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm. Police have not released the name of the man.

A search warrant was executed for the property with police finding a handgun, among other items.
