A Hartsburg man faces multiple charges in Boone County after a Saturday shooting left one person hurt.

Court documents say the victim was shot in the head after a fight earlier in the night.

Jimmy D. Bittle III, 35, faces several felony charges including first-degree burglary and second-degree assault in the case.

Boone County Sheriff's deputies received reports of a shooting at a residence in the 800 block of W. Route M in Hartsburg on Saturday.

Deputies say several people, including Bittle, were together at the residence when Bittle and another person got into a verbal argument. Bittle and a woman allegedly then left the residence.

Victims told deputies Bittle and the woman returned and that Bittle was holding a shotgun when he arrived at the front door.

Court documents say Bittle walked into the bedroom of the person he had the argument with, started yelling and allegedly pointed the gun at the person. Victims told deputies Bittle held the shotgun in the air and fired it once into the wall behind the person's bed.

Investigators say one person who is was sleeping in the other room had just woken up when they felt something "hot and painful" hit them on the left side of their head. Deputies said the victim had marks consistent with being struck by shotgun pellets and debris.

Court documents did not include the severity of the injuries.

Bittle told deputies that he went back to the residence to get his keys, phone and a garage door opener. He said in the court documents the person Bittle got into the argument with pulled out the shotgun and both of them fought over it when the gun apparently went off.

Online court records say Bittle wasn't given a bond. As of Tuesday afternoon, he was being held in Boone County Jail custody.
