Teenager hurt in central Columbia shooting
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A 16-year-old boy was the victim of an early morning shooting Friday in central Columbia.
Columbia police said they found the boy and started giving him first aid after being called to the shooting a little after 1 a.m. near Sexton Road and Woodlawn Avenue, according to a Columbia Police Department news release.
The boy was rushed to a hospital, police said. No one else was hurt.
Officers found a man who matched the description of a person involved in the shooting and detained him, according to the release. It isn't clear whether he is a suspect.
Police and first responders rushed to the scene in large numbers. Cruisers blocked off multiple streets in the surrounding area.
K-9 units and a Crime Scene Investigation van were at the scene. Police blocked off parts of Sexton Road with crime scene tape, searched the area with flashlights, and took photos in the area.
