JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A federal court sentenced a Jefferson City man Wednesday to probation and a fine for evading business taxes.

Judge Stephen Bough sentenced Ryan M. Phegley to three years of probation and ordered him to pay a $30,000 fine, according to federal court documents. Phegley must also pay $152,570 in restitution to the IRS and $31,604 to the Missouri Department of Revenue.

Phegley pleaded guilty in July to one count of tax evasion.

Phegley was the owner of Phoenix Freight Lines, Inc., from 2010 to 2014, according to his plea agreement. He failed to file individual income tax returns or business tax returns from 2011 to 2013, the agreement says.

Phegley's unreported income from owning the trucking company was more than $640,000, according to the agreement.
