JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Jefferson City police said Wednesday that a stop of a stolen vehicle led to a foot chase downtown.

Police took a report of a vehicle stolen from a home in the 700 block of Scott Station Road in Cole County early Wednesday afternoon, according to a Jefferson City Police Department news release. A Jefferson City police officer saw the car about 15 minutes later and the driver stopped in the 400 block of Madison Street and ran, the department said.

Police were able to track down the driver in the 300 block of Highway 50/63, according to the release. The 29-year-old suspect assaulted an officer before tumbling down a hillside, police said.

He was taken to the police department for questioning and admitted to stealing the car to attend a probation and parole hearing, according to the release.

Police have requested charges of vehicle theft, resisting arrest and assaulting an officer. The department did not release the suspect's name.
