One dead in Jefferson City shooting
A 35-year-old man died after an early morning shooting Wednesday in Jefferson City.
Officers were sent to the 900 block of Jackson Street at about 12:16 a.m. and found a man in the road suffering from several gunshot wounds, according to a Jefferson City Police Department news release.
Officers gave the man medical attention and he was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where he was stabilized, the release said. The man was being taken by ambulance to a Columbia hospital for further treatment when he died, police said.
Family members and witnesses described the shooter as having dreadlocks.
Police found several shell casings in the area that were consistent with details given in calls to 911, the department said.
The investigation is ongoing. No one has been arrested and "it is too early in the investigation to determine a motive," police said.
