Charges filed in northeast Columbia shooting
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Prosecutors have charged a Columbia man with two felonies after he alleged fired shots on a residential street.
Police were sent early June 19 to the 5400 block of Kelsey Drive in northeast Columbia after shots were fired. No injuries were reported but a vehicle and a gas meter were hit by gunfire, police said at the time.
Randi Swanigan was charged Thursday with unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action in the shooting.
According to a probable cause statement, an officer tracked down Swanigan at a residence in the 5400 block of Kelsey Drive after finding a car with bullet holes outside. The officer noted that one of the bullet holes in the car indicated the shot had been fired from inside the vehicle, according to the statement.
The officer also found several shell casings on the ground, the document says.
Swanigan told police he was sitting in his car when someone fired at him, but he didn't fire back, according to the statement. However, police say they found gunshot residue on his hand and spent casings in the car that matched the caliber of those found on the ground and of a gun found inside Swanigan's home.
Swanigan was not on the Boone County Jail roster Thursday.
His bond was set at $50,000 cash-only.
