Second suspect arrested in deadly Columbia shooting
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A second man suspected of murder in a Columbia shooting has been arrested, police said Thursday.
Bobby Dawson, 38, of Columbia was arrested in the Kansas City area on first-degree murder and armed criminal action charges. Dawson is wanted in in the May 25 killing of Rod Jamal Jones, 36, of Columbia in the 2700 block of Quail Drive.
Jones died after being taken off life support two days after the shooting.
Police said in a probable cause statement that Dawson took Jones behind a building and shot him while another man, Robert Junior Johnson, held a crowd outside at bay with a gun.
Johnson admitted to police that he was at the scene but told ABC 17 News last week that he was not involved in the shooting.
Sergeant Jake Becchina with the Kansas City Police Department said officers arrested Dawson after 3 p.m. Thursday at a home.
Becchina said officers knocked on the door at 2:54 p.m. and asked Dawson to come out. There was no response for about 20 minutes until Dawson came out and was arrested without incident.
Officers took Dawson to the Jackson County Detention Center. It wasn't clear when he will be brought to Columbia.
