Man and woman face new rape charges linked to highway patrol investigation

Cassandra Wedeking and Carl Mort

LAKE OF THE OZARKS, Mo. (KMIZ)

Morgan County prosecutors filed new rape charges last week against a man and woman linked to a highway patrol rape investigation at the Lake of the Ozarks.

Online court records say Carl Mort, 41, and Cassandra Wedeking, 39, of Overland Park, Kansas each face felony a charge of first-degree rape in the new case.

An arrest warrant was issued June 16, according to online court records. The alleged offense happened in July 2017, according to records.

Wedeking and Mort were charged earlier in the year with rape, sodomy, drug possession and other crimes.

Missouri State Highway Patrol investigators said when those charges were filed that Wedeking and Mort offered a woman drugs at a lake-area bar and later raped her on a boat.

Court records say bond for Mort and Wedeking on the new charges was set at $150,000. Both have pleaded not guilty in each of their rape cases, according to the records.

Records say 26th Circuit Court Judge Matthew Hamner scheduled a four-day jury trial for Jan. 4 to Jan. 8 on Mort and Wedeking's original rape charge.
