Woman charged in attempted kidnapping investigation

MONROE COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Authorities arrested a New Hampshire woman for allegedly planning to kidnap a child in Monroe County.

According to a news release, Erica Johnson, 20, came to Monroe County from Boston on April 25 to meet an 11-year-old. Johnson allegedly talked to the child for about four months over social media and gaming platforms.

Troopers said she made the trip to try and persuade the child to go with her to New Hampshire. Authorities said Johnson was not successful in leaving with the child.

The patrol said New Hampshire State Police arrested Johnson on Monday. She is currently in custody in New Hampshire awaiting extradition to Missouri.

According to a news release, her bond has been set at $50,000, cash only.

Prosecutors charged Johnson in April with child kidnapping.
