COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Boone County prosecutors have charged a man with a shooting that damaged a home and vehicles in central Columbia on Wednesday.

James H. Troy, 22, of Columbia, was charged Thursday with unlawful use of a weapon, four counts of first-degree assault or attempted first-degree assault, four counts of armed criminal action and a count of illegally having a gun.

Troy is a felon prohibited from having a firearm. Each charge is a felony.

Columbia Police Department officers were sent to 705 McBaine Ave. at about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday on a shots-fired call. Police found a home and three vehicles with bullet holes in them, according to a probable cause statement.

A witness told police she saw a man carrying a long gun on a nearby street and police identified the man as Troy using surveillance video, according to the statement.

A woman at 705 McBaine told officers she was in the yard with her four children when a man walked up, threw down his coat, pulled out a long gun and started firing at the residence, police said. She said the man fired at her vehicle as she and her children were trying to get inside it.

No one was injured.

The children range in age from 2 to 9 years old, police said.

A warrant has been issued for Troy's arrest but he was not on the Boone County Jail's online roster late Thursday afternoon. A judge has denied bond in the case.
