Court documents: Man charged with murder in deadly Sedalia weekend crash
SEDALIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Pettis County prosecutors filed murder charges Monday against a man accused causing a deadly crash over the weekend in Sedalia.
Westley Reid, 26, of Clinton, is charged with several felonies including second-degree murder and causing a death while driving while intoxicated.
State troopers say Reid was driving a stolen truck on Sunday night and crashed into 27-year-old Zachary Hancock-Bottom at the intersection of Highway 65 and West 32nd Street.
Documents show authorities started chasing Reid in Henry County.
Court documents said a trooper tried to pull Reid over around 9:21 p.m. The highway patrol crash report shows Reid was driving at about 106 mph when the trooper was chasing him.
Reid crashed into Hancock-Bottom at 9:26 p.m., according to court documents. Documents say Hancock-Bottom was thrown from his vehicle after the crash. He was pronounced dead at Bothwell Regional Health Center at 10:05 p.m.
The trooper's report said an empty bottle of whiskey and another opened bottle of whiskey were found inside Reid's vehicle.
Reid refused to give a blood sample to authorities. He was taken to the hospital and a search warrant for Reid's blood was granted. A trooper said Reid admitted to "drinking a lot of alcohol," before the crash.
Online court records show Reid's bond was set at $100,000. He was being held Tuesday in the Pettis County Jail.
