Names released in apparent murder-suicide near Columbia
EDITOR'S NOTE: The story has been corrected to note no deputy was injured.
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ) -
No deputies fired their guns and none of them were injured during the response to an apparent murder-suicide near Columbia late Monday.
The Boone County Sheriff's Department said Bobbie Jo Robinson, 39, of Columbia and Stefan L. Dailing, of Moberly, were killed in the incident, which happened just before midnight in the 5100 block of North Creasy Springs Road.
Boone County sheriff’s deputies went to the home at around 11:30 p.m. Monday for reports of shots fired. Someone shot at the deputies when they entered the home, the sheriff's department said in a news release. Deputies retreated from the home and called in backup from the Columbia Police Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
After midnight law enforcement officers outside the home saw flames coming from the area of the home from which gunshots had been fired, the sheriff's department said. Firefighters could not approach the home because of the possibility that someone inside was armed, according to a news release.
However, firefighters and deputies made a plan to extinguish the flames through a window.
A SWAT team went inside at 2:19 a.m. and found Robinson and Dailing dead, the sheriff's department said. Autopsies will be performed on both to determine the cause and manner of death, the department said.
The sheriff's department said it does not believe anyone else was involved.
