COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Boone County prosecutors charged a 35-year-old man for allegedly breaking into a woman's residence and assaulting her on Friday.

Courtney Brown faces a count each of first-degree burglary and third-degree domestic assault.

Brown allegedly kicked down a door to the woman's residence at the 1600 block of High Ridge Circle. Police said the door frame to the back door was broken and the door was on the ground when officers arrived.

Brown's probable cause statement says he and the woman had previously dated and that he attacked the woman for not being with him.

Police said the woman had a cut on her hand and marks on her forehead from where Brown had punched her. Officers said the woman tried to call police when Brown took her phone. He allegedly ran out of the residence with the woman's phone.

Brown was arrested just after midnight Saturday at the 1900 block of Creasy Springs. He's currently being held without bond in Boone County Jail.
