Carl Martin, 38, of Fulton is charged with attempted child molestation linked to an incident that allegedly happened in November.

FULTON, Mo. (KMIZ)

Callaway County prosecutors charged a Fulton man with second-degree child molestation after he allegedly tried to rape a child who fought him off.

Carl Martin, 38, was arrested Tuesday by Callaway County sheriff's deputies. He's accused of trying to have sex with a child younger than 12 years old.

Court documents say Martin invited the child to his house on Nov. 2. He allegedly played a pornographic program on his television and mentioned wanting to have sex with the victim.

Martin's probable cause statement says the child told authorities Martin tried to take off the victim's pants off. Police say the child reported kicking Martin and ran out of the house.

The Callaway County Sheriff's Office posted on Facebook that Martin was being held in the county jail without bond. His probable cause statement shows Martin was convicted of sexual misconduct in 2013.

Online court records show Martin is expected in court on Dec. 13.
