COOPER COUNTY, Mo (KMIZ)-

The Cooper County Sheriff's Office said Monday it believes a suspect who prompted a manhunt Sunday is no longer in the area.

Deputies said Sunday they responded to a report of an assault on Cave Creek Road.

According to the Sheriff's Facebook, a male suspect, identified Monday as Robert "Bobby" J. Jackson, fled the scene while deputies were attempting to conduct an investigation. Jackson reportedly has outstanding warrants.

The Sheriff's K9 unit was deployed, along with other Deputies, to assist in the search. After an extensive search, deputies said they do not believe Jackson is in the area.

The post also said the assault deputies were investigating was not in progress at the time of the investigation. The Sheriff's Office said the report was delayed.

Deputies are continuing their investigation into the assault and say charges will be filed through the Cooper County Prosecutor's Office.

As a precaution, the Sheriff's Office asked residents in the area of Hwy. 87, Cave Creek road, and Dishion Lane to lock their houses and secure their vehicles while the search was conducted.

Residents are asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 660-882-2610 or 911 with any information.
