TUESDAY UPDATES: Boone County reports 55 new COVID cases

The Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services is reporting that 55 new coronavirus cases were added to the information hub on Tuesday. The county also reported 177 new cases on Monday.

The county delays reporting cases by two days.

The dashboard is showing 34 COVID-19 patients in Boone County hospitals. There are six patients are in the ICU and three patients are on a ventilator.

Boone County healthcare system capacity is in the yellow status. Yellow status means hospitals are operating within the standard capacity and meeting any of the following criteria:

  • Delaying non-emergency patient transfers from referring hospitals due to capacity for greater than two (2) days, or
  • Delaying non-emergency patient transfers from referring hospitals due to staffing for greater than two (2) consecutive days, or
  • Delaying non-urgent procedures and operations to provide additional inpatient capacity

Additionally, 47,315 COVID-19 cases were recorded previously.

Boone County is reported to have a low COVID-19 community level, according to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS).

The Columbia Public Schools reports active coronavirus and quarantine cases to their website daily.

The district reported a 49.5 14-day rate on Saturday. These are only cases identified in areas served by Columbia Public Schools.

CPS reports that 17 district facilities (nine elementary schools, four middle schools, one high school and three other district-wide facilities) currently have staff out because of COVID-19.

The district is reporting 16 coronavirus cases in staff across the district. The breakdown in staff shows eight staff members at an elementary school, five staff members at middle schools, one staff members at the high school level and two staff members at district-wide facilities who have tested positive for COVID-19. Three staff members at elementary schools have to quarantine due to being in close contact.

The district reported eight district facilities that have reported coronavirus cases in students. In the district, there are five out of 21 elementary schools, one out of seven middle schools and two out of four high schools have reported coronavirus cases in students.

There are two elementary students, two middle school students and two high school students with an active coronavirus case in the district. The district is reporting two cases at the elementary school level is currently in quarantine.

State of Missouri reports COVID cases up slightly compared to last week

The latest State Profile Report shows most of Missouri remains at a low transmission level of COVID-19. The report shows new cases are up 2% compared to last week with 180 cases per 100,000 people.

The report shows Missouri had 11,031 new cases of COVID-19 for the week of June 23, a 229 case increase from the previous week.

The report also indicates that four residents died from the coronavirus, a 73% decrease from the previous week.

Most of Missouri’s counties (73) are considered low community transmission. Of the remaining Missouri counties (33) including Camden County is considered a medium county while nine counties are considered high COVID community levels.

Over 77.8% of Missouri residents 18 years and old have received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine and 66.2% are considered fully vaccinated.

According to the report, all coronavirus cases were identified as the omicron variant or subvariant.

According to the report, six hospitals are dealing with supply shortages or six percent of all hospitals.

Cole County nearing 18,000 COVID cases

The Cole County Health Department reported 32 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday. The county added one new case on Wednesday, seven new cases on Thursday, 12 new cases on Friday, five new cases on Saturday and seven new cases on Sunday.

According to the dashboard update, there have been 17,955 total cases in the county since March 2020.

The county reported 121 COVID cases and 73 breakthrough cases seven days prior to June 24.

The health department is reporting that 60.8% or 46,666 of county residents have received at least one dose of the COVID Vaccine.

The Missouri coronavirus vaccine dashboard reports Cole County as having a low COVID-19 community level.

The Jefferson City School District reported no new coronavirus case in a student or staff on Tuesday.

The district is reporting no active cases in a student and one active case in a staff member.
