TUESDAY UPDATES: Boone County reports five new coronavirus-related deaths; 50 new cases
The Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services reported five new coronavirus death. This is the 160 coronavirus-related death.
The first individual was in the 80+ age group and died Aug. 23. The second individual was in the 70-74 age group and died Aug. 27. The third individual was in the 45-49 age group and died Sept. 11. The fourth individual was in the 75-79 age group and died Sept. 19. The fifth individual was in the 80+ age group and died Sept. 21. Sara Humm, spokesperson with Columbia/Boone County, reports the deaths were recorded as part of our data reconciliation process.
The county reported 50 new COVID-19 cases from Monday.
There are currently 364 active cases in the county, an increase of 26 from Monday. The county now has a reported total number of 24,762 COVID-19 cases.
The county reported 24,238 cases removed from isolation.
Boone County ranks 11th in the state with the most coronavirus cases in total volume in the past week. Cases are down 21% on the week. The county has a 6.3% positive test rate, according to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS).
The health department's hospital status is green with 47 COVID-19 patients in Boone County hospitals and 12 of them being Boone County residents. Of those, 14 are in intensive care and 10 are on ventilators.
The Missouri coronavirus vaccine dashboard reports that 101,667 residents have received their first dose in Boone County and 91,936 Boone County residents have completed their vaccine doses.
Boone County has the third-largest percentage of county residents in Missouri that have received at least one dose of the vaccine with 56.3%. The largest county in the state is St. Louis County with 58.9%.
Boone County is third in the state with a reported 50.9% of residents that have completed their coronavirus vaccine doses. St. Louis County is the first county in the state with 52.7% of residents have completed the doses for vaccination. The city of Joplin has 55.9% of the population fully vaccinated.
Cole County has the second-highest first vaccination rate in Mid-Missouri with 49.9%. Callaway County is third with 45.1%.
The Columbia Public Schools reports active coronavirus and quarantine cases to their website daily.
The district reported a 25.2 14-day rate per 10,000 for Monday.
CPS reports six district facilities (four elementary schools and two high schools) currently have staff out because of COVID-19. There are four staff at elementary and two staff at the high school level that has tested positive for the coronavirus. The district has four elementary staff members and two high school staff members currently quarantined because of COVID on Monday.
The district reports 27 district facilities to have students currently out due to the coronavirus. There are 16 out of 21 elementary, six out of seven middle schools, three out of four high schools and two districtwide facilities affected.
There are 29 students that have tested positive for COVID-19, a decrease of four cases from Monday. The district is reporting 15 students in elementary, three students in middle school and 11 students in high school have tested positive for the coronavirus.
There are 172 students, which are required to quarantine due to the coronavirus, a decrease of 63 students from Monday. The district reports 134 elementary students are currently quarantining, 20 students in middle school, 16 students in high school and two at other district facilities.
Cole County nears 50 percent of residents to initiate getting coronavirus vaccine
The Cole County Health Department reported 21 new coronavirus cases from over the weekend.
According to the dashboard update, there are 10,982 residential cases and 284 long-term care facility resident cases. That is 11,266 total cases in the county.
Cole County has reported 161 coronavirus deaths.
Cole County ranks 58th in the state for counties with the most coronavirus cases per capita in the past week. Cases are down 26.7% comparing last week to the prior week. The county has a 7.7% positive test rate, according to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.
The Missouri coronavirus vaccine dashboard reports about 49.9% of the county have initiated their first dose of the vaccine and 45.6% of the county's population have been fully vaccinated.
The Jefferson City School District reported one new coronavirus case in a student or in a staff member.
The district is reporting 10 active cases in students and two active cases in a staff member.
The district is reporting 15 close contacts for students and one close contact for staff.
State health department adds 140 new COVID-19 deaths
The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services reported 140 new COVID-19 deaths Tuesday.
According to the state health department, a review of death certificates on Monday found 126 new coronavirus-related deaths that weren't previously reported.
Here's a breakdown by month of when those deaths happened:
- August 2021 - 11
- Septemberr 2021 - 115
State health department workers have been reviewing death certificates weekly since September 2020.
Another 14 new virus-related deaths were added from the previous day.
Missouri also added more than 1,180 new cases of COVID-19 over the last 24 hours.
Data from the MO DHSS shows 835 patients tested positive through the use of PCR testing. That's below the state's daily average of 1,009 cases for the testing method.
Antigen testing also revealed another 346 new probable cases of the virus.
The statewide seven-day positivity rate slightly fell Tuesday from 8.7% on Monday to 8.6%.
Hospitals in Missouri report 1,371 patients are hospitalized with COVID-19. Of those patients, 237 are on ventilators.
According to the state health department, more than 2.9 million Missourians have finished the vaccination process against COVID-19.
That's 48% of Missouri's population.
