MONDAY UPDATES: Boone County reports one coronavirus-related death; 92 new cases over the weekend
The Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services reported one new coronavirus death. This is the 155 coronavirus-related death. The individual was in the 50-54 age group and died Sept. 14.
The county reported 92 new COVID-19 cases over the weekend.
There are currently 338 active cases in the county, a decrease of 16 from Friday. The county now has a reported total number of 24,712 COVID-19 cases.
The county reported 24,219 cases removed from isolation.
Boone County ranks 11th in the state with the most coronavirus cases in total volume in the past week. Cases are down 23.7% on the week. The county has a 6.4% positive test rate, according to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS).
The health department's hospital status is green with 51 COVID-19 patients in Boone County hospitals and 13 of them being Boone County residents. Of those, 16 are in intensive care and 12 are on ventilators.
The Missouri coronavirus vaccine dashboard reports that 101,756 residents have received their first dose in Boone County and 92,022 Boone County residents have completed their vaccine doses.
Boone County has the third-largest percentage of county residents in Missouri that have received at least one dose of the vaccine with 56.4%. The largest county in the state is St. Louis County with 58.8%.
Boone County is third in the state with a reported 51% of residents that have completed their coronavirus vaccine doses. St. Louis County is the first county in the state with 52.7% of residents have completed the doses for vaccination. The city of Joplin has 55.9% of the population fully vaccinated.
Cole County has the second-highest first vaccination rate in Mid-Missouri with 49.9%. Callaway County is third with 45.2%.
The Columbia Public Schools reports active coronavirus and quarantine cases to their website daily.
The district reported a 25.2 14-day rate per 10,000 for Monday.
CPS reports six district facilities (four elementary schools and two high schools) currently have staff out because of COVID-19. There are four staff at elementary and two staff at the high school level that has tested positive for the coronavirus. The district has four elementary staff members and two high school staff members currently quarantined because of COVID.
The district reports 30 district facilities to have students currently out due to the coronavirus. There are 16 out of 21 elementary, six out of seven middle schools, three out of four high schools and two districtwide facilities affected.
There are 33 students that have tested positive for COVID-19, a decrease of seven cases from Friday. The district is reporting 17 students in elementary, four students in middle school and 12 students in high school have tested positive for the coronavirus.
There are 235 students, which are required to quarantine due to the coronavirus, a decrease of 45 students from Friday. The district reports 190 elementary students are currently quarantining, 25 students in middle school, 18 students in high school and two at other district facilities.
Cole County reports 15 new coronavirus cases over the weekend
The Cole County Health Department reported 15 new coronavirus cases from over the weekend.
According to the dashboard update, there are 10,961 residential cases and 284 long-term care facility resident cases. That is 11,245 total cases in the county.
Cole County has reported 161 coronavirus deaths.
Cole County ranks 54th in the state for counties with the most coronavirus cases per capita in the past week. Cases are down 22.1% comparing last week to the prior week. The county has an 8% positive test rate, according to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.
The Missouri coronavirus vaccine dashboard reports about 49.9% of the county have initiated their first dose of the vaccine and 45.6% of the county's population have been fully vaccinated.
The Jefferson City School District reported no new coronavirus cases in students or in a staff member.
The district is reporting nine active cases in students and two active cases in a staff member.
The district is reporting 14 close contacts for students and one close contact for staff.
No appointment needed for MU Health Care COVID-19 testing; CPS numbers fall over weekend
MU Health Care said Monday that appointments are no longer required at its central coronavirus testing site in Columbia.
The site, at 2003 W. Broadway, was established as the organization's central collection site for COVID-19 testing. Walk-ins will now be accepted starting at 8 a.m. Monday through Friday, the organization said. The final patient of the day will be seen at 4:45 p.m. or earlier depending on demand.
The test is free and results will be delivered within 48 hours, MU Health Care said in a news release.
MU Health Care has administered close to 200,000 coronavirus tests with about 20,500 coming back positive, according to the organization's website. MU Health Care is treating 43 confirmed COVID-19 patients at its hospitals along with 14 patients who are probable for COVID-19.
Coronavirus numbers down in Columbia Public Schools
The number of students in quarantine or isolation for coronavirus exposure or a positive case fell over the weekend in Columbia Public Schools.
The number of students in quarantine for exposure to the coronavirus fell from 280 on Friday to 235 on Monday. The number of positive cases fell from 40 to 30. Those numbers have fluctuated widely since school began in late August. Sixteen of the district's 21 elementary schools have cases or quarantines, along with five of seven middle schools and three out of the district's four high schools.
Hundreds of CPS students have been positive or put on quarantine in the month and a half since school began, as the delta variant continued to spread. Experts say delta has sickened more children than previous strains of the virus. In Boone County, more cases are being diagnosed in school-age children, with the 10-19 age group frequently responsible for more daily cases than other age groups.
Missouri adds fewer than 800 new cases of COVID-19
The state health department reported on Monday fewer than 800 new cases of COVID-19.
According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, PCR testing revealed 681 new cases of the virus. That's below the state's daily average of 1,008 cases for that testing method.
At least 680,974 people in Missouri have tested positive for COVID-19 through the use of PCR testing.
Antigen testing found another 81 new probable cases of the virus. The additional cases pushed the total for that testing method to 144,144 cases.
The statewide positivity rate fell Monday from 8.8% on Sunday to 8.7%.
There were no new coronavirus-related deaths reported on Monday. Missouri has reported 11,524 total virus-related deaths since the pandemic started.
According to the state health department, 1,420 patients are hospitalized with COVID-19. Hospitals reported 252 of those patients are on ventilators.
More than 3.3 million Missourians have started the coronavirus vaccination process.
That's 53.9% of the state's population.
