MONDAY UPDATES: Missouri DHSS adds 109 coronavirus related deaths after analyzing death certificates
Missouri DHSS has added 109 COVID-19 related deaths after the state’s disease surveillance system analyzed several death certificates.
Officials say the deaths will be captured and reported publicly through the dashboard Tuesday morning.
Of the109 deaths:
- one in June
- 105 in July
- three in August
Officials at DHSS report the weekly activity typically causes a sharp increase in the deaths added to Missouri’s total the following day. DHSS is now regularly analyzing death certificates on Mondays.
Officials say the state does not track probable or pending deaths.
Boone County reports three new coronavirus-related deaths; 126 total
The Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services is reporting three new coronavirus-related deaths. That brings the total number of coronavirus deaths in Boone County to 126.
The county is reporting the first person was in the 60-64 age group and died January 12. The second person was in the 25-29 age group and died July 30. The third person was in the 40-44 age group and died August 1.
The county reported 178 new COVID-19 cases over the past three days.
There are currently 779 active cases in the county, an increase of 86 from Friday. The county now has a reported total number of COVID-19 cases of 21,679.
The county reported 20,775 cases removed from isolation.
Boone County ranks eighth in the state with the most coronavirus cases in total volume in the past week. Cases are up 2.2% on the week. The county has a 12.1% positive test rate, according to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.
The positivity rate is up for the previous week of July 30 through Thursday to 31.3.
The health department's hospital status remains in yellow, with 119 COVID-19 patients in Boone County hospitals and 28 of them being Boone County residents. Of those, 28 are in intensive care and 14 are on ventilators.
The Missouri coronavirus vaccine dashboard is reporting that 97,999 residents have received their first dose in Boone County and 86,012 Boone County residents have completed their vaccine doses. Boone County has the largest percentage of county residents in Mid-Missouri that have received at least one dose of the vaccine with 54.3%. The second closest county in the state is St. Louis County with 53%.
Boone County is first in the state with a reported 47.7% of residents that have completed their coronavirus vaccine doses. St. Louis County is the second county in the state with 46.4% of residents have completed the doses for vaccination.
Cole County has the second-highest first vaccination rate in Mid-Missouri with 46.2%. Montgomery County is third with 41.4%.
Cole County reports 108 new coronavirus cases from over the weekend
The Cole County Health Department reports 108 new coronavirus cases.
According to the dashboard update, there have been 108 new cases in the county, bringing the total to 9,734 resident cases and a total of 280 cases for long-term care facility residents. That brings a total of 10,014 total cases in the county.
The county is currently reporting 128 coronavirus-related deaths since the pandemic started, the most in Mid-Missouri.
Cole County ranks sixth in the state for counties with the most coronavirus cases per capita in the past week. Cases are down 16% on the week. The county has an 18.1% positive test rate, according to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.
The Missouri coronavirus vaccine dashboard reports about 40% of the county's population have been fully vaccinated.
Boone County hosting multiple COVID-19 vaccine community clinics this week
Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services will host multiple COVID-19 vaccination community clinics this week.
Anyone can use the walk-in based clinic and no appointments are needed. The community clinics listed below will offer both Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines.

Vaccines are free and do not require ID or health insurance.
Anyone aged 12 or older is eligible for Pfizer. Anyone aged 18 and older is eligible for Johnson & Johnson. Parental consent forms are required for anyone under the age of 18.
Coronavirus hospitalizations, positivity & cases dip slightly
Monday morning marked the first in weeks in which most COVID-19 metrics inched downward across Missouri.
The state health dashboard recorded 1,119 new confirmed cases of the virus, bringing the pandemic total up to 587,979. Though still high, the addition is smaller than in previous days.
The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services also recorded 203 new probable COVID-19 cases. In total, 114,945 probable cases have been discovered through antigen testing. Monday's number of probable cases was less than half the reported new cases on Sunday.
Meanwhile, no new deaths were reported in Missouri, leaving the pandemic's death toll at 9,828.
The seven-day COVID-19 positivity rate also dropped slightly to 14.5%.
The state's latest hospital data showed the number of COVID-19 patients decreased slightly. On Friday, 2,136 patients were hospitalized due to COVID-19, down nearly 30 from the day prior. The number of patients in Missouri ICUs also dipped slightly, sitting at 626 on Friday.
