FRIDAY UPDATES: More than 40% of Boone County residents have completed coronavirus vaccine
The Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services is reporting 17 new COVID-19 cases.
There are currently 61 active cases in the county, a 12 case increase from Thursday.
The county now has a reported total number of COVID-19 cases of 18,479.
The county has reported the total number of cases removed from isolation is 18,302.
The Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services dashboard has reported the latest five-day average as 5.
The health department is reporting the total number of hospitalizations in Boone County is 14.
The health department is reporting two Boone County residents are in the hospital due to the coronavirus.
The dashboard is showing four COVID-19 patients in the ICU and two patients on a ventilator.
The State of Missouri coronavirus vaccine dashboard is reporting that 84,946 residents have received their first dose in Boone County and 72,374 Boone County residents have completed their vaccine doses.
Boone County has the largest percentage of people in Mid-Missouri that have received at least one dose of the vaccine with 47.1%. The second closest in the state is St. Louis County with 44.3%.
Boone County is first in the state with a reported 40.1% of residents that have completed their coronavirus vaccine doses. St. Charles County is second in the state with 36.5% of residents have completed the doses for vaccination.
Cole County has the second-highest first vaccination rate in Mid-Missouri with 37.6%. Montgomery County is third with 33.7%.
MU Health Care vaccinates hundreds of children
MU Health Care has administered the coronavirus vaccine to hundreds of adolescents.
In an email, a spokesperson said MU Health Care administered doses to 372 people between the ages of 12 and 15 at its after-school clinics on Monday and Thursday. Those clinics were held at Faurot Field.
MU Health Care vaccinated an additional 56 children last Friday during a regularly scheduled vaccine clinic. In total, MU Health Care has administered nearly 80,000 doses of the vaccine.
Meanwhile, Columbia Public Schools started first-dose vaccine clinics at its middle schools Friday. The district partnered with the Columbia/Boone County Health Department to offer free vaccinations to students who are 12 years old or older.
Clinics were scheduled Friday at John Warner, Jefferson, West and Lange middle schools. First-dose clinics are set to happen Monday at Oakland, Smithton and Gentry middle schools.
ORIGINAL: Nine additional deaths due to the coronavirus were added to the state health dashboard Friday, pushing the total number of deaths in Missouri to 9,005 since the pandemic began.
According to data from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, 431 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed through PCR testing, bringing the state total of confirmed cases throughout the pandemic to 508,968.
Health officials also recorded an additional 190 probable cases of the virus through antigen testing. Since the pandemic began, a total of 86,491 antigen tests have yielded positive results.
The seven-day COVID-19 positivity rate was reported as slightly up from Thursday, sitting at 3.8% Friday morning.
As of Friday morning, 40.6% of Missourians have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, with 33.6% of the population completing the vaccination process.
