MONDAY UPDATES: Missouri DHSS adds 46 coronavirus related deaths after analyzing death certificates

Missouri DHSS has added 46 COVID-19 related deaths after state’s disease surveillance system analyzed several death certificates.

Officails say the deaths will be captured and reported publicly through the dashboard Tuesday morning.

Of the 46 deaths:

  • one in October
  • four in December
  • one in January
  • four in February
  • 20 in March
  • 16 in April

Officials at DHSS report the weekly activity typically causes a sharp increase in the deaths added to Missouri’s total the following day. DHSS is now regularly analyzing death certificates on Mondays.

Officials say the state does not track probable or pending deaths.

Columbia Chamber of Commerce and the Columbia Convention and Vistors Bureau issued a letter to the community asking for patience and support of the hospitality industry.

With spring and summer bringing in more events and visitors to the area, the organizations are urging residents that hotels and businesses are having to train and rehire employees.

The organizations are asking everyone in the upcoming busy weekends to have patience and welcome visitors back to Columbia.

Boone County active coronavirus cases drops below 100

The Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services is reporting 15 new COVID-19 cases.

There are currently 96 active cases in the county.

The county now has a reported total number of COVID-19 cases of 18,153.

The county has reported the total number of cases removed from isolation is 17,972.

The county continues to trend down as there have been 81 straight days of single or double-digit case increases.

The health department is reporting the total number of hospitalizations in Boone County is four.

The State of Missouri coronavirus vaccine dashboard is reporting that 76,524 residents have received their first dose in Boone County and 47,689 Boone County residents have completed their vaccine doses.

Boone County has the largest percentage of people in Mid-Missouri that have received at least one dose of the vaccine with 42.4%. Boone County has a reported 26.4% of residents that have completed their coronavirus vaccine doses.

Cole County has the second-highest first dose vaccination rate in Mid-Missouri with 31.9%. Saline County is third with 30.8%.

Officials administer 3.4 million coronavirus vaccine doses in Missouri

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services said 3.4 million coronavirus vaccine doses have been administered in the state since becoming available.

The COVID-19 dashboard said more than one-third of state residents, 2.1 million, has received at least one dose of a vaccine as of Monday. Health department data included 1.4 million residents have completed vaccination.

Vaccinations are expected to continue increasing with many clinics scheduled throughout the state.

About 70% of Missouri's elderly residents have initiated vaccination. The dashboard said nearly half of residents 55-64-years-old have also had at least one dose of a vaccine, as of Monday.

Federal officials paused the use of Johnson & Johnson's single-dose vaccine recently after several reports were received of young women developing blood clots after taking the shot. Investigators are working to determine if the clotting is linked to the vaccine.

Officials reported 378 positive COVID-19 cases through PCR and antigen testing, 189 cases through each type of testing. Nearly half a million positive cases have been confirmed in Missouri since the pandemic started, the dashboard said.

On Saturday, the health department removed more than 11,000 cases from the state's total count of probable cases. The department cited the data had been inadvertently reported as antigen and PCR cases.

No new deaths were reported in the state's count of virus-related deaths -- the total count was reported at 8,635 on Monday.

Missouri's positivity rate increased slightly from the day before to 5% on Monday, according to the dashboard.
