COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Camdenton Board of Education this week voted to end the district's official coronavirus precautions.

The 4-3 vote Monday means students and staff who were in quarantine because of exposure with a person who tested positive can return to school, Superintendent Tim Hadfield said in a message to families. The vote also makes masks and social distancing voluntary, Hadfield said.

New coronavirus cases are on the rise statewide and in several areas of the country, prompting health officials to urge Americans to remain vigilant. Camden County has logged the fifth-highest rate of new cases among Missouri counties over the last seven days, according to the state health department's dashboard.

The state reports 28.5% of Camden County residents have gotten at least one dose of coronavirus vaccine.
